BiosRich Kim has made his mark in Hollywood directing reality TV. With a resume that lists six seasons of America's Next Top Model, Mtv's 70's House, The Simple Life, Petra Nemcova's "A Model Life", VH1's The White Rapper Show, The Real World, Road Rules and more. Currently, Rich is directing a brand new, primetime show for ABC called "Fat March". Rich received his BFA in film and photography at the University of Illinois Chicago and his MFA at The American Film Institute in LA where he received the Sheila and Irwin Allen Endowed Scholarship. For his short "One Last Run", Rich was the 2000 recipient of the Franklin J. Schaffner Award, AFI's top award. In the world of music videos, Rich has directed his fair share, including TobyMac's "Irene", which won the 2003 Dove Award for best music video and Golden Boy with Miss Kittin's "Rippin Kittin" which was featured in 2002 RESfest. Rich was kind enough to speak at last year's expo and was an instant success. Reality TV has changed the face of television forever. Join us as Rich gives insight into how a reality TV show comes to air. Julie C. Laughlin is a seasoned television producer who has overseen numerous hit shows in the alternative genre, including ABC's "Extreme Makeover." Her devotion to the trials and tribulations of "real people" has inspired an uncanny ability to communicate human stories in a captivating and heartfelt way. In 2005, Laughlin entered into a multi-year, overall production deal with Fox Television Studios, run by veteran television executive Angela Shapiro-Mathes, where she will develop edgy, primetime reality programming for US and international markets. Laughlin began her career in syndicated talk television, producing such top-rated daytime series as "The Jerry Springer show" and "The Leeza Show." Her style of conveying emotional human stories with creativity, passion and humor made her programs some of the highest-rated in this genre. While working on "Leeza," Laughlin received four daytime Emmy® nominations and received a Prism award, which honors accurate depiction of smoking, alcohol and drug use, and the Genesis Award for Excellence in Educational Programming. With her keen story-telling and casting sensibilities, Laughlin's career progressed from daytime talk to network primetime reality television. From 2003 to 2005, she served as co-executive producer on "Extreme Makeover." She has also developed, produced and cast such hit series as CBS's "Big Brother" and "The Family" for ABC. While working with ABC Laughlin had the opportunity to extend her creative talents. She was behind the 2004 Emmy Awards "Reality Surprise". She worked with Garry Shandling and the Producers to create one of the most memorable moments in Emmy history. Laughlin is also a respected journalist and news producer who, while residing in the Middle East, served as executive producer for CNN and the BBC, and ran the Dubai Bureau for Dubai TV. Laughlin is a native Californian and resides in Los Angeles. She is a member of the Writers Guild of America and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Frank Partipilo has been working as a professional Camera Operator and Lighting Designer/L.D. in the TV/Film business for over 30 years. As a two time Emmy Award winning Lighting Director, he has worked on countless number of single camera film style and multi camera productions. He is going into his 16th season as one of six camera operators, as well as Lighting Designer and L.D. for the internationally syndicated "The Jerry Springer Show". He also designed lighting for the seven camera New York based "Tony Danza Show" when it came to Chicago for a week of studio tapings. Frank will also be going into his 21th year teaching Advanced Camera & Lighting at Columbia College in Chicago. He is also a lifelong collector/archivist of film and movie art, having a private film collection of over 500 movies/TV shows, a 30 seat cinema, projection room and lobby. Frank is also a 3D still photography enthusiast. Sandie Stern, National Sales Manager for The Tiffen Company Motion Picture and TV Division, has been with Tiffen for almost 20 years. She has enjoyed the unique experience of working with professional DPS shooting both film and video in the capacity of providing real life solutions to the challenges they face each day. Actually working at the Hauppauge, New York location where the filters are manufactured provides a creative environment where "anything is possible"! Peter Abraham was born in Philadelphia and has been a working cameraman for 28 years. The last 20 years have been almost exclusively dedicated to Steadicam. He has shot features, commercials, music videos, live television, industrials and documentaries. Nominated 3 times for an Emmy Award, he has earned a Cine Golden Eagle, 2 Telly Awards and a New York Festivals award. For the last 17 years he has both operated Steadicam and instructed Steadicam Workshops from Seoul to Miami to Rockport, Maine to New York City to Los Angeles. His credits include Malcolm X, Crooklyn, 1996 Olympics, ABC's Wide World of Sports, Sex & The City, The Sopranos, Mercedes Benz, Mary J. Blige, Notorious B.I.G., Tina Turner and others. In 20 years he has owned 5 Steadicam sleds, 5 Steadicam arms and 2 Steadicam vests. He lives in Upstate New York with one wife, two teenage kids, 4 house cats and a family of groundhogs under the back deck. Emmy Award winner Lars Ullberg was born and raised in Chicago. He graduated from Columbia College in television and film. He spent 10 years as a writer and producer in Washington, DC working for ABC, the Smithsonian Institution, A&E, and Discovery Networks. He then moved to Los Angeles where he spent another decade working for NBC, National Geographic, History Channel, and E! Entertainment Television. While there, he maintained regular contact with the Chicago industry through CITI (Chicagoans in the Industry) and Columbia College events in LA. Lars recently moved back to Chicago to become Executive Producer and Director of Development at the University of Illinois Center for the Advancement of Distance Education (CADE) with projects in broadcasting, webcasting, games, and virtual reality. He maintains active memberships in the Producer's Guild of America, the International Documentary Association, Women in Film, and now, a board member of the Illinois Production Alliance (IPA). Credits include Supervising Producer or Producer of: National Geographic's Expeditions To The Edge, A&E's Interventions Mr. Justice, Love Chronicles, Ancient Mysteries, Investigative Reports, Sony's Worst Case Scenario, TLC'S Untold Stories From The ER, NBC'S The Future Of Science, History Channel's: Modern Marvels, The Big Build. His advanced technology credits include: Microsoft Games: Beyond the Limit, The Center for the Advancement of Distance Education's Bio-Terror Response Game, Public Health Virtual Reality Island and Advanced Realities. Larry Miller has been Producing and Directing television and film for over twenty years. Spanning all aspects of production, Larry has been known to do everything from running camera on television documentaries for A&E, to producing computer generated special effects and maps for National Geographic, and editing complete seasons of episodic television for TNT. He has directed everything from industrial training films to feature length dramatic movies. His vast experience has caused him to be asked to consult on many an independent feature film as well as a full time position at the University of Illinois. His past television clients include A&E, Discovery Networks, National Geographic, and The History Channel. Midwest Producer for HBO's award winning documentary "Naked States". He is currently creating a landmark video game using live produced video for the Centers for Disease Control, and The City of Chicago.
